Product Description: (Solanum melongena) Also known as Tiger Green Stripe. The first written record of this ancient eggplant variety appeared in the year 544 CE, although its cultivation almost certainly predates this.
Lao Green Stripe is best known today for its unique appearance. Each of the small, round fruit exhibit a beautiful cream-colored skin with green shoulders and stripes. The interior is both tender and flavorful, lending itself well to traditional Southeast Asian dishes such as curries, soups, and spicy eggplant spreads. Open-pollinated. 25 seeds per packet.
Growing Information: Start indoors 10-12 weeks before your last spring frost. Transplant outdoors after all danger of frost has passed. Space your plants about 50cm (1.5 feet) apart. For larger plantings, space your rows 150cm (4-5 feet) apart. 90 days to maturity from transplant.
Seed Saving: This variety is best harvested for consumption while the fruit are still small and green but for seed saving, allow the fruit to ripen until they turn yellow and the flesh is soft to the touch. After harvesting, set the fruit out in a well-ventilated area until the skin begins to wrinkle. Extract the seeds and allow them to fully dry.
